I just self installed the AVIC-Z1 in my 05 Ram 3500. Everything is hooked up but the am/fm, wrong connector. Xm traffic works but I have no xm. Maybe I don't know how to work it. Xm signal shows very strong but the icon for xm is not active. Any thoughts anyone, if so you could send me info at [email protected].
Thanks

Check your p-bus cable. Part of the traffic info comes through the data cable so it sounds like you may have the P-bus connected wrong

I had this happen as well. My ground wire to the xm unit was lose. Make sure your positive and ground power wires are hooked up properly to the XM module.

This happened to me iniially, I had the connectors on the XM unit incorrectly connected.. you've probably got the IPBUS cable connected to the "IN" on the XM box itself... it needs to be in the "OUT" connector.

You also need to make sure that if you are using the data cable and the IP Bus cable, that you DO NOT hook up the red (switched power) wire of the XM module. Leave that taped off and hook up the yellow (constant power) only.

One last thing...call XM and have them check your account. There phone bank is in India or Jacarta or something like that. They don't always understand English that well and may have screwed up your order so you aren't recieving XM radio...

After I read this I reread my manual and noticed this note on an addendum in my manual. The odd part is I did hook up my red wire and have no ill effects, at least not as of yet.

Edrock...I think it says it COULD cause issues. I'm not sure what that means exactly. But since it sounds like it could have a problem who knows where with what, I would disconnect it if I were you.

Well, even more oddness now..I disconnected it and it killed my XM, so I reconnected. Odd...

Now that I think about it it's probably telling me to keep it disconnected because it's getting +12v from the pioneer bus. They probably encourage you to disconnect the positive from the xm because if you are pulling the 12v from two different sources you could potentially cross those positives together, however I am feeding the xm unit from the same pos source as the HU....still doesn't explain why it won't work without the wire hooked up for me though...odd.
