Is there a way when you are not using any of the functions to
have the screen just show a photo instead of the home screen?

You can have the system do a slide show. Page 102 of the manual.

I know about the slide show but that's not what I am looking for.
When you first put the unit on you can have it show your own JPEG. I would to have
that show up like a screen saver when I am not using the navigation or music.
It's probably not possible but I thought I would ask.

Yes you go into settings, backgrounds, and u can load a photo from sd card

Yes no screensaver but you can change the background. Like Tekki said settings>background. If you want to change the bootup, you go to splash screen.

Also make sure the pictures are on the root of the USB, or sd card your using.

What I would like to do:
When I hit the mode button screen goes to black.
This is where I would like the photo to show.

The display off is to turn off the unit. I doubt they will ever create a screen saver mode for display off. I use this button when I get to my neighborhood. Not the best area. Lol
