Well heres another install. Looking atthe older ford Super Duty you may think it's a double DIN radio opening. I assure you it's not. More like 1.75 DIN.

Anyway. I massaged a Pionner AVIC-Z1 into the dash along with an outboard rear view camera and XM radio.

ENJOY!!

Great pics. I have a 2003 F350. Is this the same radio size? If so, what do you mean by "massaged" it in? Any details would be great. I'm installing my Z1 soon .

How did you get the XM and GPS wires thru the windshield?

The top and bottom lip have to be cut off of the dash trim around the radio to make it a true double din. The radio fits nicely into the opening thats actually in the dash. Use the Backstrap included to make a couple of L brackets and mout the radio on the sides that prodrude fromthe inner dash.

There is a channel running around the windshield. Use a small pick tool to hold up the edge of the windsheild trim and run the wire around the windshield under the trim. Pull the upper and inner weatherstrip gaskets off the door jam. On the windshield edge theres a notch cut into the rail that the weatcherstrip mounts to. Run the cable throgh there and put the strip back. Run the cable behind the traingle shaped faom piece in the door and then under the inner door weather strip. Be sure to tape the wire to the edge the weatherstrip attaches to or loop the wire so there is some slack as not to chafe the wire when the inner seal is replaced. Enter the dash on the side in the door jam.

The wire is completely hidden.

Im doing th bluetooth in this truck next week I can take all the pics you might want.

Nice job. Just about ready to get this installed in my 2006 F350. I am planning on putting the rear camera either on the hitch or under the tailgate as others have done. I have seen pictures of the rear view from under the gate and was wondering if you could post a pic of the AVIC when showing the backup angle from the hitch. I'm interested in see if it's better when trying to hook up the trailer.

Thanks,

Rod

Great Info. Thanks. More questions. Where did you end up mounting the Mic? I like the install of the camera. Where did you run the wire to enter the vehicle?

Ill take those pics when I have the truck back here next week.

The mic is behind the rearview mirror on the headliner.

The rear camera cable enters the cab under the rear passenger door running board. The power supply for the camera is in the passenger B pillar at the bottom.
