Can the custom image I want to put in my N2 be made to fit the screen? Or must I have it look somewhat cheesy with the black border?

If you read the forum, resize your pictures to 500x240, and it will fill the full screen.

yeah all units have that same dimension for back grounds. Any program can reize your pics for you, even a simple one like MS paint.
