Seems like there are no vendors actually shipping CarPlay at this time. I have heard from some car vendor reps that Apple is making them hold off until the September iPhone announcement.

My point is these came to market with an early summer promise. That missed equals bull.
How anyone thinks it is ok to make a promise, break it and say well now we say something else is nonsense

If you go to the Pioneer CarPlay page on their site, it does still say early summer, actually.

It sure does. Also, Apple is notoriously secret with product information. As someone who works for one of Apple's closest partners, and who is authorized to know all the stuff that my company knows, I can assure you the car vendor reps have no idea when anything Apple is going to happen. If they say it's going to come out with iOS8 launch in September, they are likely making assumptions. It is certainly possible that CarPlay will come out with iOS8, but I sure wouldn't trust the word of "some car vendor reps".

Sure and if they had said firmware release date subject to Apple's release permissions sometime in the future no complaint would be reasonable. Unfortunately, they did not.

Let's not forget that when it came to Apple, the only things they ever promised was 2014 for the car makers and "soon" for Pioneer and Alpine. They never promised us Summer.

Very sloppy marketing...
Hopefully it'll be released having gone through a fairly rigorous Apple QA test plan and be all the better for it.

Sloppy is kind. I agree hopefully whenever it is released it is at least fully sorted.
