I am using the free Spotify account om my iPhone 5s. Works fine but won't let me forward to the next track after about three or four songs. I have to listen to the whole song. This applies to the  Spotify on screen buttons, the steering wheel remote and the deck's own hardware buttons.

Any ideas?

Pretty sure you only get a certain number of skips per hour on most of these services unless you're a paying subscriber...
