Maps in CarPlay does not seem to have a night mode for me... Has anyone else seen a night mode? The actual display dims due to the Pioneer headlight hookup, but the colors on Maps are still the bright day colors, and are a bit too bright at night.

That's not how it works. At a certain hour it goes to night mode automatically. You don't comtrol it.
It was 9:00 last night and was dark out when I tried it! It was still in day mode!

Yes, headlight were on, and the unit is hooked up to the headlight light sensor, which is working fine with the Pioneer Nav.
I just tied out Maps again now that it is dark here... Night mode worked! I've definitely had several little bugs that seem to come and go with rebooting the phone...maybe this is one of them???
I haven't figured this one out. I'm actually using an AppRadio 4, but it should be the same. I went out on a night test drive last night and I saw the map on my phone was in fact in night mode. When I plugged it in and turn CarPlay on, it went back to day mode.
Has anybody figured out how to enable this feature for certain? Thanks.
Mine seems to be working now. I believe the fix is to open the map in standard view mode. Open the app and go into standard view. Close it and reopen it. Hook the phone back up and open maps. It should go into night mode. It seems like there is a time trigger now for night mode too.
Dimming has nothing to do with it. The displayed map is controlled by the phone and the phone auto switched from day and night mode depending on the hour. Also it only shows night maps during nav. If you're just using the map, it will always be bright.
Mine worked last night all of a sudden and it was in night mode even when not actively navigating. Let's see if it stays that way...
I was wondering if the NEX-4000 even had a dimming mode. Mine does not dim at all. It does not matter the time of day or if the headlights are on or off.... I was hoping this was a software thing. But I bet there is a wire in there that is hooked up wrong... ugg...
any thoughts?

Carplay Maps doesn't dim for me used it to night and it was very bright and as far as NEX dimming there is an illumination wire (Orange) but unless its wired to harness adapters illumination wires you can't dim from your cars dimmer. I did notice the other day that when I updated the theme on my iPhone 6Plus that icons are also updated in Carplay on the NEX.

It's honestly broken. When the app first launches if the moon and the sun are in perfect alignment, the car display is set to night mode, and you're not in satellite view on your phone, your app can go to night mode. However, if anything is off it will jump back to day mode and there is no switching back.

I fixed my problem with nightmode8 allows me to enable nightmare on maps so i'll use that until apple fixes the issue then remove it b/c using maps at night in my car on my nex-4000 is distracting.

Yeah but I'm not jailbroken and I'm running the unjailbreakable version of the OS.......lame.
Any update to this? Running iOS 9.2 on iPhone 6S and mine is never in night mode. I've tried rebooting, closing the maps app, making sure it's in standard view, with or without navigating, etc. I sent a feedback to Apple but who knows how that goes. This makes using the maps at night pretty annoying.
So for once now I got night mode. It happened when the screen seemed to lockup and then it kicked out of maps as if it crashed. Then when I went back into maps got night mode. Not reliable at all. Hoping 9.3 fixes it.
