My stock wiring harness does not have illumination wires. I assume they are on the CAN BUS.

So without those is there a way to get the map into Night mode? I switch it in the settings and it does not do anything.

Anyone know? Maybe grounding the illum wire (lights always on type of thing)

Thanks,

Burn

You could tap it from the parking lights wire. Thus when you turn on your lights, It will switch to nighttime mode. What car do you have?

I have 06 Linc Zephyr.

I don't understand why you can't just switch the thing into night mode regardless of the lights.

Do you know what it is that the illumination wire does when on?\

ie. 12volts = on or 0v etc??

settings > map display options > day/night display

to manually change it and works for me

Yeah, however I do not have the illumination wire hooked!

Called pioneer and they said it needs that wire, which is stupid that you can't change it on your own.

So any one know what else to use or tap into?

Parking Lights+ gray/yellow + driver kick or SJB, conn. E, pin 30

Notes: The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is part of the fuse/relay box under the driver side dash.

That only applies when the illumination is already hooked up. Without it it does nothing,

What are you talking about? You don't connect the crutchfield harness to the parking lights. If there is no orange/white wire in your pioneer harness, then this thread is totally useless to you because whatever radio you have doesn't have a dimmer.

yes all it does is give 12volts on, and 0volts off. If you want control over it, you can attach it to ignition and just install a switch.

I have a similar issue... on my forester (05) there is a negative and a positive side to the illumination wires. Avic has only one illum. wire... what to do?

Oh... I forget anyone know where to find the vss wire on my car? and what color it is perhaps?

Speed Sense green/yellow ECM, 20 pin plug, pin 10 The ECM (Engine Control Module) is below the glove box. The VSS wire is also found behind the instrument cluster in the middle plug.
