Z1 & auto dim??

Am I blind? I had the D1 which would auto dim the screen, according to the ambient light conditions. My Z1 is not doing this. I can't find anything in the manual, or in the menus. Am I missing something, or does the Z1 not have this feature. It's got the little "eye" to sense the light, just like my D1 had....

I think the eye you are referring to is the IR sensor for the remote.

To expand on the previous post, the only way to dim the screen is via the dimmer wire or manually switching it from night/day mode or adjusting the brightness.

I suppose a small rheostadt to the dimmer wire might be worthwhile.....

I think he is talking about an automatic brightness dimmer---My N1 has this. It makes the screen brighter if it is really bright outside, and makes it dimmer if it is darker. Not just with the headlamps on or off, but always. You could activate it by placing your hand over the top of the open screen in the daylight and it would make the screen darker.

You know, I was thinking of adding that functionality to my circuit. It would need a light sensor and if you turned on the lights, it would only dim your radio at night (or when the light sensor thought it was night). So if you decided you didn't want this feature, you could tape up the sensor. Just something I was toying with adding. I have 1 unused input on my processor, I don't know about the parts, but it might not be too hard to create something. It would need some adjustment knob though.

A1cntrler is correct- that's what I was talking about. Thanks for clearing it up.

Yah, that is a little above and beyond. I might try to make one, just to see if it can be done.

It does not come with a dimmer switch. If you don't have an illumination wire and don't want to try and find a "parking lights" wire then you can hardwire a switch in to put the unit into "night" mode. Just wire the switch between the red and white wire (hook your red up to switched + as usual.) That being said if you post your car year, make and model we can probably find out what your illumination wire is.

Ducatiboy's unit does the following:

1. Bypasses security by pulsing the illumination wire on the z1 regardless of whether or not you have illumination hooked up on your cars side
2. Pass through the cars illumination signal 10 seconds after the unit boots up (and the bypass has been completed.)
3. The unit will work either with or without the cars illumination wire attached, but I highly recommend attaching it. I find the unit to be blinding at night without it.
