I can't seem to find the Height & Width in pixels for the D3. Is it the same as the D2? Trying to create a custom background and using pg. 66 in the manual gives me an over-square image that has black bars on the side and extends past the top & bottom.

Spec's at the end of the manual say

Screen size/aspect ratio ..... 6.1 inch wide/17:9 (effective display area: 136 ✕

72 mm)

Pixels .................................... 336 960 (480 ✕ 234 ✕ 3)

Thanks.

I believe the D3 uses 500x240 like the D1.

Thanks, I just ended up using the MM height/width in photoshop. Seemed to workout fine. The are for my excursion.

Could you make those pics bigger I'm having some trouble seeing them?

No kidding, I just checked back and those things are HUGE. I've deleted them and will try to resize. Sorry for the gratuitous use of bandwidth.

thanks for removing the pics.

Well, using 136 x 72 mm still give me black all the way around. I will try the 500 x 240, thanks.

They state the maximum at 2048x1536 o page 66 of the manual but I quickly found that was incorrect. I played around a bit and found the maximum is actually 2048x1082 pixels. Perfect fit.

it does not fit the whole screen with that setting. It still has alot of black in it.

x2, small gap on the top and slight large gaps on the sides... I guess keep htrowing away blanks..

500 X 240 worked for me, resolution isn't too bad.

cool... glad to hear it worked.

Posted Mar 27, 2007 · 07:32 UTC#13

i will try 500x240 by today.

500x240 should work, I went ahead and made it 1000x480 and I'm sure you can make it larger and it would fit nice and flush as long as you can keep the same aspect ration... good luck, mine looks very good!

I had something weird happen to me. I used one of the pics off the background request thread. It was 500x240 and it worked fine. however, when I made my own on photoshop and made it 500x240, it was way too small, so I made another one that was 1500x720 (72 px/in 8 quality optimized jpg) and it worked perfect. Maybe there is something a bit more technical about it like pixels per square inch or something....dont know. I hope this helps someone.

I would like to modify some of the built in backgrounds and then load them as custom backgrounds...

Anybody know if you can copy the background images off of the NAV DVD and then open them up in Photoshop or something like that???

If so, do you know where they are located on the NAV DVD???

Thanks,

Mark

so that we are all on the same page here.. are we talking 500x240 PIXELS or MILLIMETERS... pixels didnt work for me and looked AWEFUL

The image size should be 1000 x 480 pixels at 96dpi and 24 bit for best results.

I hope you guys simply arent resizing existing pictures to 500x240. If the existing aspect ratio is not that, it will look like crap.

im a bit perplexed... i took some photos and cropped them in photoshop... saved them as jpg... added them to a CD in a pictures folder with a bunch of other backgrounds (normal desktop size) and when i try to select the one i cropped i get a data read error... BUT all the other ones come up just fine... WTF

Ok, for those that have done this with a success, how about listing exactly what you did.

I've got photoshop, so I'm no noob here

However, my first attempt left the photo way to large and it did not fit in the screen. My next attempt left the photos way to small. I tired the 1000 x 480 px at 96 dpi and it resulted in photos way to small.

I have created several 500x240 pixel @ 72dpi JPEG (standard non-interlaced) images and they all look good to me...

I have attached one as an example...

Good luck,

Mark

i figured my issue out... my images where saved as progressive scan in the JPG options... using either optimized or standard seems to work just fine

i used 1000 x 480 px and it looks just fine
