I bought my z1 in january 06. the gps worked like gem. I had the xm/nav traffic installed and the tech moved the satelite from the outside of my truck to the inside. i like the fact that its hidden, but now my gps is acting funny. sometimes the arrow keeps moving while im stopped, and sometimes the location on the map is not the location that im at. does this mean the unit is faulty? should the tech replace the satelite back outside of the truck? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

sounds like you dont have the VSS installed either (helps with you have poor reception/no gps signal). That will definitely stop the arrow from moving while you are stopped.

Yes, move the atenna back outside if you arent getting good reception.

i had this done professionally so i have no clue as to what the vss is. is that something that came with it? THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING!

The VSS wire is a wire in your vehicle. When you connect the Z1 to that it takes the vehicle's speed off the same signal your vehicle uses for the speedometer or cruise control. So when you stop the Z1 knows you are stopped. It still takes your direction and location on the planet from the GPS, but it will use that in conjunction with the vehicle's speed sensor and I think generally when there is a discrepancy, the VSS wins.

When moving your antenna inside the vehicle you do reduce your signal strength, usually not enough to cause that problem, but it's possible with placement and other factors. The antenna really wants a piece of metal to stick to for optimum signal strength, if he just jammed it on he plastic dash between that and the window, you are really hurting your signal strength.

Hit MENU- SETTINGS - HARDWARE - CONNECTION STATUS.

There you will see your speed sensor (top line I believe) and when you drive if that's hooked up you will see that number change with the speed (might not be the exact speed but it should be relative). Also in there is GPS signal strength, see how many sats you see, if it's very low, that's not good.

If mounted under the dash, make sure it is only under plastic. On some vehicles there is a steel cross car beam that if the antenna is mounted under the beam, it will block satellites from that direction.
