iPod Interface

I just had the Z1 installed a little over a week ago. Since my OmniFi was stolen along with my old Premier 9800BT, I needed something that could hold my 50GB of music. The insurance company sent me an iPod and the interface to hook up to the Z1.

It is horrible. Not only is it unbearably slow, there appears to be no way to scroll quickly down to a certain letter. God forbid you need to get to the "S" area of the artist listing. You'll be there all day, and probably crash in the process trying to hit the >> down arrow enough times to get there.

Anyways, my buddy just had his D3 installed, and the interface looks a lot better (though I'm not sure if it solves my particular problem). I was wondering:

1) Does the Z2 have the same interface as the D3?

2) If so, is it likely there will be software update for the Z1?

3) What dictates the interface, is it software on the headunit or software on the interface adapter?

4) Is there any way around this slow-ass browsing?

Here is a screenshot of the iPod interface on the D3:

the z2 still uses the cd-ib100 like the z1. the d3 uses the cdi-200 which is just a cable. the software is actually in the d3, wheras the cd-ib100 was an external unit, so no, you could not use it with the z series. and yes the d3 version is much faster and lets you scroll pages. I myself have the z1 and feel the same way about the ipod interface. as for an update, we'll just have to wait and see

No, the Z2 is the same as the Z1. Looks nice but slower than the D3 and doesn't transfer video

No

Cut the little blue wire in the CDIB100 adaptor and control your ipod from the ipod instead of on the screen

Thanks for the answers! I'm most intrigued with whtcrxghst's response to question 4.

So riddle me this... If I were to run a switch for that little blue wire instead of just plain cutting it, could I flip the switch in the middle of operating the Z1, or would that freeze up the interface?

It would be nice to flip a switch to go back and forth between the Z1 interface and the iPod's....

There was another thread about modifying that adaptor, not sure if anyone ever actually tried a switch on that wire

Hmmm, I had previously searched and didn't see anything about it. Since you mentioned the blue wire, I searched for that too. Couldn't find a thing.
