ok, so if I am reading correctly, the D2 has an input for an external A/V source? like my existing DVD player? If this is correct, then I will be going with the D2.

Yes it has an input for an AV source.
I have the D2 installed and I bought the D3, installed it and then decided that I still liked the D2 better.

if only the D2 can match my white illuminated dash, i'd buy the D2 also. but currently, the D3 is the *only* touchscreen headunit that has the color-matching function.

nevermind answered my own question.
well my dash used to glow green...but after seeing some white illuminated dashes...yeah
