can anyone clarify the difference between an AVIC D3 and an AVIC D3BT - i have seen both for sale online and not sure which one to buy....

Nothing, the BT is probably the D3 sold with the CDBTB200 bluetooth option. That is most likly just a retail modle discription because to my nowledge Poineer doesnt sale the two together.

is the bluetooth adapter anygood - can you dial/answer calls from the touchscreen via a graphic interface at all??

Yes, it works very well, you get full control from the touch screen as long as you have a phone that is supported, most phones are supported, do a search on this forum for more info on the d3 and its options.
