I installed the Z1 in my wife's Aviator over the weekend. I also installed and added the SWI-PS and the XM/NavTraffic module. I bought a bypass module from Ducatiboy and he also made me up a voltage regulator to lower the sub turn on voltage to 5V that Ford uses to turn on the subwoofer amp. Absolutely everything was perfect the first time out! Steve's stuff is some of the highest quality work you will ever see. It's hard to believe he builds those by hand. I have never dealt with anyone who is as helpful as he is and is willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy. Quite honestly guys, his product is worth twice the money. Think about that when you order from him.
The install on the Aviator is such a breeze compared to others. There is so much room to work with you wouldn't believe it. There's even a VSS wire right at the factory radio connector. What could be simpler??
By the way, there are two spots under the dash of the Aviator that are perfect for mounting the GPS and XM antennas. I attached metal plates then set the magnetic antennas on the metal plates. Both systems register full signals on the Z1. Don't let anyone tell you the antennas have to be exposed to work properly. I have two vehicles now with antennas under the dash and both work perfectly. With the radio door closed on the Aviator, no one has a clue I have anything extra installed on the car. That's important to me.
All in all, I am extremely pleased with this unit. I still have a lot to learn about all it can do...and I am going to add the Bluetooth for my wife's phone. As it is, she won't answer a cell call when she's driving. (she's smart and knows her limitations) With the Bluetooth, she should feel much more comfortable. Anyway, since I don't drive her car that often, I won't get to use the system like I want...so the learning curve will take a while. But I'll learn it....and I may just have to spring for another one for my car!!
