I bought an 06 Chevy Silverado about 4 months ago in which a Z1 was already installed. I have grown to love my Z1 and have done alot of upgrading to the sound system. I have been reading about the bypass that ducatiboy offers and was thinking about getting one. This weekend I was installing an amp for my sub and stuck my head under the dash and saw this little toggle switch. I was shocked that the previous owner had already installed this. Once I got everything put back together, I flipped the switch to the "on" and took off down the road and as it is supposed to the DVD control worked as well as all of the nav. functions. Since then I cant get it to work at all. Is there a certain way that i am suppose to go about turning this relay on and off?

Note: Dont know if automatic headlight affects this switch, but i do have them.

I don't know what that switch is doing, but it's most likely wrong. Here are the instructions for bypassing a Z1:

Go through it and do it right.

The switch is connected to a green/white wire (VSS most likely). When I turn my truck on with switch off, there are options grayed out, when i flip the switch on theses options become available. But once I start moving they are grayed out again. But the other day as I said before, I was able to do it all while going down the interstate. And also I dont believe the illumanation wire is connected.

All this does is trick out the paring brake. The illumination wire doesn't factor into it.

If the manufacture date is before July 06 and the software is original, you can flash the headlights when you start up the car and it will be unlocked all the time. If the software is July 06 or later, you can ground 2 wires permanently and it will be unlocked all the time.

That switch will NEVER work reliably. What happens is that when you are stopped, you need to apply your parking brake to get access to stuff. When you stop your vehicle you flip the switch instead of applying the parking brake. That's it. You can try to flip that switch when you are moving but you will get a parking brake pop up message which will then come on every time you start the car till you reset the Z1.

If you want access to everything all the time, forget that switch, it's only good for when you come to a stop.

hit

MENU - SETTINGS - HARDWARE - CONNECTION STATUS

And look at the GPS signal strength, when you are stopped. Flip the switch and wait for a while, do the sats go away (signal strength go to 0)? If so then it's the parking brake and GPS and maybe the VSS as well. If not then it's probably just the parking brake.

Either way, you don't want this.

I am positive my unit is pre July 07. That being said, I should be able to flash my light on startup, correct? When I look @ connection status it tells me there is no illumanation connection. I guess I am getting the wrong idea when I think that in order for the flashing technique the illumanation should be connected. If i could just get the flashing to work I would definatley buy the bypass.

Thanks!

Then take the parking brake switch, and remove all those connections. Don't connect the parking brake wire out of the Z1 to anything. Reset the unit with the recessed button to the right of eject.

Then take that switch and hook one side to +12V and the other side to the ILL in wire on the Z1.

Then hit

MENU - SETTINGS - HARDWARE - CONNECTION STATUS

flip that switch and watch the illumination line. If it goes on and off, shut down and reboot and follow the steps on the site I posted (flashing the lights on and off at the right time) and when I say flashing the lights, flip that switch. When it finishes booting everything should be unlocked.

If so you can get one of my circuits and put that in and it will do that for you automatically if you would like.

Or you could just do the bluetooth update and use the "bypass wire" bypass. Sorry to take money out of your hands ducati! ;)

No problem. It's all in that link I posted above. Just go through it and see what you want to do.
