2006 Mustang install questions

I'm in the process of installing the Z1 on my 2006 Mustang. I am swapping out the Shaker 500. A few things I'm confused about:

1) Apparently the orange/white wire in the old Shaker harness is not the illumination/dimmer wire, and I actually need to splice into this by the light switch. Anyone know which wire I need on this?

2) Is there a way to tap into the VSS wire without going into the engine? The Shaker 500 has speed sensitive volume, so I've got to believe there's a line to that in the head unit area.

3) Does anyone know where the reverse light wire is without going all the way to the trunk?

Thanks a bunch!

The orange white will probably work, I used it on my 03 Vic and it works fine.

The VSS wire should indeed be at the stereo. Since I don't have 05/06 Mustang wiring diagrams, I can't tell you what one it is. But it's there.

I couldn't find the reverse signal up front in my Aviator. I know there's something up front that will work, but I couldn't find it. If nothing else, there's always the reverse signal at the ECM, but that's dangerous in my book and presents another problem. I'm not sure what the voltage signal the Z1 looks for on that circuit...but they have a resistor on their lead they say MUST be used. But they are asking you to tap a 12V source too. If the Z1 is looking for a 5V source, you might get away with tapping into the ECM circuits and removing the resistor. But you're playing around in unknown territory and I would be very nervous about damaging either the ECM or the Z1. I would just fish through one of the harnesses going to the back of the car or go right to the tail light and just hook it up as the Z1 suggests using the resistor until we know more about that circuit.

Thanks for all of your help.

Unfortunately, I don't think the orange/white wire on the factory harness does it for this car. I've read in other forums about folks splicing into the headlight unit, but I haven't had any luck with this. They don't talk about which wire they use!

Speed Sense DARK BLUE/YELLOW (AC) PIN 3 OF THE 50 CONNECTOR (C175E) OF THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE
PCM - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE IS AT THE RIGHT FRONT CORNER OF THE VEHICLE UNDERHOOD
I would look to see if there is a dark blue/yellow wire at the radio and test it before you go under the hood for it. MAKE SURE you use a COMPUTER SAFE test light(power probe etc) not a regular one or you WILL fry the computer.

Reverse Light white/yellow + PKP or SJB, gry 52 pin plug, pin 13
The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.

Radio Illumination N/A

This is what I could find for ya.

I would look for a frequency rather than a voltage for the VSS.

for the illumination wire in 05/06 Mustangs, tap into the Tan/White tracer in the back of the headlight switch. Its coming out of the number 9 spot on the larger harness. It gives a +12V anytime the parking lights are on. You can search around for different wires if you only want nighttime mode with headlights on, foglights on, etc.
