Z1 & Sirius problem

I don't know if I am posting this in the correct section or even if this forum will help.

I had to put my truck in a parking garage while my wife was having a baby. Upon getting my truck out the guy brings it out to me and the Z1 has a black screen with some message on it. I was going to get my wife and baby to take home so I don't remember the the message. Basically I didn't have time to question the garage guy so I just shut off the truck and started it again and the Z1 went right back into booting normally and all seemed to work fine.

Once back home and back to driving normally I notice that the Sirius Satellite was not working the same. I used to occasionally lose the signal momentarily in certain spots. It was consistent that it happen in the same spots every time and only for a few seconds.

Now it is happening much, much more. I am always getting the "aquiring signal" on the screen sometimes for a long time. It happens sporadically just about anywhere. I am in NYC and the signal was always pretty good no matter where I was. Sometimes I would lose it under an overpass for a couple seconds or like I said above in teh same certain spots where I assumed the signal just could not get through. But now it is ridiculous, happening all the time and just about anywhere.

Is there something I can do to reset it or something? Nothing physical seems to have been touched. Any ideas?

Could the message have been something like "Pioneer Navigation Loading..."?

I get that for a second before the splash screen and I think it's normal.

As for the Sirius: Has the antenna been moved? Or maybe the connector is loose. Or again, maybe there is a kink/break in the antenna wire.

Just a couple of things I can think of from the top of my head.

The message was definitely not: "Pioneer Navigation Loading..." It stayed on a blank black screen with white letters on the top third of the screen. Nothing was loading, the audio screen never came on, no screen came on at all. I waited long enough for any screen to have time to load. Nothing happened until I shut off the ignition and turned it back on again where it proceeded to load as usual.

I also thought of the other things you mentioned. The antenna is mounted on the center of the dash close to the windshield next to the GPS antenna. It is in the same spot and does not look like it was touched. As for the wiring coming loose or a connector coming out of the back of the Z1 it is possible that it was just coincidence that it happened at that time but I highly doubt it. You know that they beat on your car in parking garages. Just what exactly did they do to get that blank screen?

Thanks ..... anyone else come up with any ideas?

well you know those clowns at the garage were playing around with your shit. but if that screen doesnt come up any more i wouldnt worry about it. as for the sirius, try moving your antenna outside just to see if theres a difference

I cant imagine what they could have been screwing around with. Especially to screw up the Sirius, although that was the screen that i left it on when I pulled into the garage. Maybe I have to go through the Sirius menu's to see if they f'ed up a setting or something.

I should not have to move the antenna it worked fine in the first place. I would hate to have to take out the Z1 and reroute the antenna wire just to see that it is the same.

Would restarting the Z1 do anything? I would only loose the station presets, right?

I guess I have to shut the Z1 off if I am going to be in that situation again. You can do that cant you? Have to look in manual.

move the sirius antenna, not the z1 antenna, you shouldnt have to pull the unit to do that

Yeah, Show up at the garage with a baseball bat and ask nicely! :)

also check to make sure the sirius antenna cable isnt kinked. You might actually have a bad satellite antenna. Reading some SatRad boards, it seems that car satellite antennas seem to fail quite regularly, like they weren't made well enough to handle all the elements. And I have read stories like these on both XM and Sirius boards.

Knock on wood, so far I have never had a problem with my GEXP10XMT antenna. But when I had an XM SkyFi unit in my old car, the antenna wire pretty much frayed pretty bad due to being exposed to heat and cold extremes for two years.

YEah the tiny ass coax in the antennas now is extremely finicky. I probably swap 2 to 3 antennas a week...

Give me the good old days of the giant shark fin. Those things never failed.

I still laugh when I see those. They were HUGE

I'll check it out when I get a chance. Although my antenna is inside the truck. A kinked wire can actually do it?

Most definitely
