So what does "3D Calibration" DO anyway?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any info on this 3D-Calibration function. Has Pioneer released any documentation or additional specifics on this?

My real curiosity is if this function is beneficial, if it does anything at all. Has anyone had any experience with the unit "learning" their routes? Is there any noticiable difference between a brand new unit with 0% learning, and one with 100% learning (other than a row of little green bars)?

[/trying not to be cynical]

Thanks,

The 3D calibration is for navigation when you don't have line-of-sight with the satellites, has nothing to do with learning routes. It uses gyro info, VSS info, and previously learned data to estimate your location when in a tunnel, downtown area, bridge, etc. And yes, it works

But FYI..I've been in two tunnels (Monitor-Merrimac near Hampton, VA) without my VSS connected..and with only 50% learning in place..and the D3 tracked the car, speed, location, arrow..everything..without a hiccup.

It's still using the data it picked up with the internal gyros thusfar. Even at 50% learning and without the VSS the unit is still accurate. The VSS just adds to the potential accuracy of the system. Now if you used the same sentence above but used 0% instead of 50% I would be impressed.
