Hello, first post here, and just wondering...whenever I start my car and begin to drive, it takes my z-1 anywhere between 20 seconds - 2 minutes to actually figure out where I am...After it figures it out everything works perfectly, but it is very annoying that my navigation is useless until I drive around for a few minutes. My antenna is located on my dashboard passenger side on top of the metal plate, and under the connection I always have full or almost full GPS signal strength...any ideas??

There is always an uncertain amount of acquisition time to acquire the GPS signal upon startup. And the time varies due to overhead clearance and such. Remember, the unit needs to acquire a strong signal from several satellites a couple thousand miles away in that thing we call space to be able to properly triangulate your position. Thats just how GPS works, no matter which brand name makes it.

yeah, my z1 does the exact same thing. its nothing to worry about

Yah, my old garmin 8 channel used to take up to 20 minutes to actually acquire enough signals from the sats to know where it was. These new models which acquire within a few seconds are much nicer.

Your Z1 Should "remember" where you were prior to being shut off. with that and the vss/gyros, it should be able to figure out where you are and where you are going while it aquires the GPS signals.

Menu - Settings - Hardware - Connection Status

Look at the speed sense like while moving... does the number change or is it just 0. If it moves it's hooked up.
