Hi everyone,

I have been doing alot of reading here and decided to purchase a Z2. I had it installed today by a local sound shop that I thought would be trustworthly and knowledgable. Well to start the guy tells me he will install a switch in my truck that will make the unit think the park brake is engaged and that will allow me to watch dvds while driving. Well that didn't work. Secondly at night when my automatic lights kick on the navigation screen stay on the day time mode. I have ran across another post that suggested that the illumination wire may not be hooked up. But I was unclear after reading the post if that was the real problem. I will be contacting the shop that did the install tomorrow and question them about it. I just wanted to run this problem by the pros on this site so I might have a little knowledge about the problem before I talk to them. (I guess you can tell that I trust the people here more than this local sound shop at this point.) Well sorry about the lengthy post, I just wanted to give as much info as possible to get the point across. BTW I have a 2005 GMC sierra and the unit was installed with the PAC 0s-2 bose interface, and the PAC steering wheel controls interface. And one more thing. I asked the guy if I would need the PAC cm1 for the door chimes and he said no. Now the door chimes don't work. Do you think this could have anything to do with the day/night mode? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

Hi everyone,

Hi!

Yah, we know that wouldn't work. That switch thing doesn't work very well if at all. Lots of scammers will try to sell a switch "bypass" for the Z1 and Z2, but unfortunately for the Z2, that's the best they have right now. The Z1 we can bypass (bypass the motion lockouts) and do it right. The Z2, nothing right now.

Secondly at night when my automatic lights kick on the navigation screen stay on the day time mode. I have ran across another post that suggested that the illumination wire may not be hooked up. But I was unclear after reading the post if that was the real problem.

Yes that's the real problem. They either didn't hook it up at all or they hooked it to the wrong wire. They need to find a wire that is 0V with the lights off and 12V with the lights on. Hook the ILL wire from the Z2 to that and it will work correctly. You can double check this by hitting:

Menu - Settings - Hardware - Connection Status

And look at the Illumination line. Turn on and off the headlights and see what it does. If it never changes, then it's not hooked up right.

There is a wire they can hook to, depending on the car, it might not be behind the radio (which is why they might not have hooked it up) it might be under the dash, or in the engine compartment, but it's in there somewhere, they need to find it.

I will be contacting the shop that did the install tomorrow and question them about it. I just wanted to run this problem by the pros on this site so I might have a little knowledge about the problem before I talk to them. It's alright.

This is where I lose my expertise. I don't know the wiring system of a GMC Sierra. I don't know exactly what the Pac bose interface or the CM1 are for and why they work. But I think they are interfaces to the factory amps in the vehicle and the CM1 might be for the chime to interface with the factory amp to play the chime sound on the amp. But I don't know that for sure.

IF and this is a big IF... IF they hooked the ILL wire to an ILL point on the PAC unit (this is needed for some vehicles) then the PAC device is defective, but only if there is an ILL point on the PAC device.

Can offer my 2.5 cents..

The key determining factor for needing a CM1 module is if you have "standard Bose". Premium / LUX Bose systems don't need the chime modules. I think your vehicle is standard Bose and would require the chime module.

Not sure your specifics - using Bose amp or not, standard or premium - those specifics determine what PAC module you need... It does state that OS-2 not for use with Bose amp in a 06 Sierra, so guessing you either have aftermarket amp or OS-2 and would require the CM1 module for chimes.

No, the ILL hookup would not have anything to do with chime operation (unless they hooked wires up to wrong places and who knows what ... ).. Hope that helps..

Thanks for all the info guys. It is really appreciated. And yes I do have the standard bose system. I do have the the OS-2 bose PAC interface but my installer said that I didn't need the CM1. But now my door chimes don't work. I guess that answers the question if I need it or not. I contacted the installer today and he said he will contact pioneer about the problem and get back to me.

And about the ground switch bypass he hooked up that doesn't work: He charged me an extra $40 to do it. And it has accomplished absolutely nothing except when I start my truck a screen pops up that says it detects a fault in the emergency brake gound or something to that effect. Well once again fellas, Thanks for the Help! I'm very glad that I ran across this site.

Your installer shouldn't be calling Pioneer - he should be calling PAC (Pacific Accessories Corp), as they would clearly explain what modules are needed or not. Since he hit you $40 for a SWITCH, I would suggest YOU call PAC yourself and get the low down. This way, you can be sure your installer doesn't charge you for a few more switches you may not need
