i am about to purchase an avic-d3 unit and i noticed that it comes with two dvd discs for the navigation. does this mean that anytime i want to use the navigation system i have to insert a disc? does that also mean that i must stop listening to a cd or watching a dvd to use it? any info would be greatly appreciated.
newbie here.....how does the navigation actually work?
one disc is east coast, one is west coast. you plan out your course, then remove the nvi disc and you can insert a cd. or you can leave it in there and listen to any other source, ipod, sirius, xm, changer, radio
MOD EDIT: Your info is wrong. The d1/2 have separate nav drives. The d3 does not.
i dont believe so =\ d3 only 1 disc drive... u need to take out the nav disc when you want to play a dvd or cd....
put the nav disc in to get the destination set up then take it out and play your cds... only need to put the nav disc back in if you need to change the route or modify it.
Hmm ... that is a bit of a bummer! Glad I have the D1 then.

It's not as bad as it seems.
I was worried about the one disc slot when I first was looking at the D3.
I ended up buying a used iPod off of fleabay ($100) and I haven't taken the nav disc out since.

what are you talking about? who said any differently?

My response was wrong and somebody edited it.
I thought the D3 had two drives like the D1 and D2. I did say in my original post that I was assuming the D2/D3 had two drives like the D1.
When I was looking at Avics when the D1 first came out, I thought it only had one drive and was confused about swapping the map disc/cd myself until I realized it had two separate drives. That is why I originally responded.
