does the cd r55 need to be plugged into the back of the d3 or does it use infrared or something along those lines... i have the steering wheel control interface and wanted to know if i can have the benefit of both....

Isn't that the remote? If so, you don't need anything to use it. Just add batteries and go.

i kno for the other remote you need to wire it to the back of the unit at least power it and plug it into the remote port on the back of the d3... but looking at the owners manual it doesnt say n e thing about wiring it at all so maybe ill get it

It's a wireless remote, just like the one for your TV.
