What universal tv tuner will work with the AVIC Z2.

please help.

Any universal tuner will work. That's why it's universal. You will not, however, be able to control it from the Z's touch screen.

my understanding is that there really isnt a package antenna. my question was what "tested tuner will work" what is it called, where do i get one, how much is it? i need a little more information for i do not want to go buy something that sucks.

I am using the pioneer p6400-tv tuner on my z-2 works great. although pioneer stopped making them a couple of years ago you can probbly get one on ebay. I have seen them for around two hundred dollars.

Good luck getting 1. Those tv tuners are worth their weight in gold. 2009...............LOL

They told me that any of the tv tuners from Pioneer will work with the Z2 including the 6400 and the 7000 and will be useable from the HU.

Anyone have issue with these or comments? Or are they just hard to find?

The 6400TV and 5700TV tuners are a direct plugin. The 7000TV requires slight modification but all three definitely work. They are very hard to find--sold my last three 5700TVs on ebay about three months ago for almost two grand total

Any notes on the 'slight modification'? Or you can just say search. =)

you have to cut a wire inside the cable but you will have to search to find the wire that needs to be cut I don't remember.

the reason as to why pioneer no longer makes this is because the FCC is changing all tv to digital, no longer analog. so from what is said, they will no longer be compatible

this is ballpark of 2009 so whtcrxghst is pretty accurate

Ya, but is Pioneer really going to go ~2 years with out having a tuner. Why not a digital/analog one. Or should I ask, does anyone know if one is in the works?

Is the format/signal for digital pined down? But then again they could also make it upgradeable.

to anyone interested i have a bunch of avic stuff going on ebay sunday the 19th

i forgot to include my 7000 tv tuner (no cables tho)

I'm using a GEX-P5700TV with my Z2. As a unit they work fine. As for reception in the Portland OR area it sucks. Before I mounted the antennas in my rear facia, I tried it just hanging loose in unobstructed mounting setup as well as other configurations. It didn't make any differance.

As for FCC, all TV receivers must be digital reception capable and TV stations must brodcast a digital signal by date X. It does not mean on date X or X + anything analog is going to stop. Let's understand reality. TV stations live by advertizing. Dose anyone think any big company is going to allow something to cause them to loose 10s of million sales because most people in the US don't have a digital tuner.

thats pretty much accurate. they didnt wanna overproduce them and have customers feel they wasted money on something that would be of no use in the near future. u can easily get a diff brand and put it in aux. highly unlikely that u will find a pioneer tuner ANYWHERE

Hello everyone! Very new here but have been checking and using the information here for a couple of years. This forum is fantastic! Thanks for the info!! I just bought a 6400 pioneer tuner and was under the impression it could be used normally with a digital converter as I researched this some time ago and don't remember where I read it. Can anyone help?

I am 90% sure that you wasted your money

The Pioneer tuners are 100% paperweights. All is not lost though. Digital tuners can be bought. I've installed numerous in my customers vehicles. With one caveat, you will not receive a signal while you are in motion. Like here in Houston, we are so vast, if you live on the outskirts of town, your signal will be pixelated.

100% sure. You don't need any of the add-on IP-BUS tuners to use a digital converter. Every digital converter I've come across has composite video out and RCA audio which will plug right into a Z1/2/3.

It would have been best to purchase a digital converter when they had the $40 gov't coupon, most were free or close to it. Now you're looking at $25-40 on eBay. Several run on 12V so would be easy to adapt.
