My installer seems to be having trouble getting the lumination correct on my Z2. When he connects the lumination wire from the Z2 to the variable voltage wire from the dash dimmer switch it works in reverse. when the dash lights are turned down the Z2 gets brighter and when the dash lights are turned up the Z2 gets dimmer. He then tried connecting to the parking lights but then the Z2 goes from full bright to full dim when the lights are turned on or off and when the key is turn on and the lights are turned to the off position the lights remain on while the key is on. I have a 2008 ford F250

you usually dont hook it up to the dimmer wire that fluctuates. the illumination wire that just goes from ground to 12v is the way to go. the dimmer is usually negative trigger, and thats why your getting the problem you have

You can't, the Z1 and Z2 only have normal and dim, just 2 settings. You can set those settings to whatever level you want, but based off the headlights, you only get 2 settings.

yup purely digital settings. Either on or off.
