Back up camera doesn't work when backing up.

I finally received my ND-BC1 and my GEX-P10XMT on Friday. I installed the camera the same night and the GEX-P10XMT yesterday. All works great except the camera doesn't come on when I put the truck in reverse. It works when I change my view in the map settings but not when I am backing up. Is there anything I need to change to have it come on when I am in reverse? I think I know what it is (installer did not connect the reverse wire correctly)but want to verify first with you guys before I go take his head off.

As long as the reverse wire is connected properly, and the backup camera is enabled, and the reverse wire polarity is correctly set, then it should automatically pop up when you put the car in reverse... The install manuals generally get you to tap the wire that runs to your reverse lights since those are generally quite easy to find...

Wes,

Thanks for the confirmation of what I thought should happen. Even though it is a 100+ degrees here in TX I did not want to go back outside, but I did. After taking the unit out and tracing the wire down to my surprise (yeah right) the installer did not even hook up the wire. So to make sure I crawled under the truck after tapping the reverse light wire and made the connection. It worked just like you explained. Now the installer has hell to deal with come tomorrow.

See this goes to show you if you want anything done right you have to do it yourself. In the beginning I did not want to be bothered with the install, but now I will never trust another stereo shop.

I know exactly what you are saying.. No one is going to care as much about your install as you do.. So if you have the ability, it's always best to do it yourself! :)

Even if it takes longer and can sometimes be a pain in the ass, you end up learning a lot -- and you generally get something you are very satisfied with in the end..

Glad to hear everything worked out...

Good luck dealing with the installer!

Does your camera come on in rear view split screen mode? I can't get mine to come on. It shows the map on the right side but blacks out the rear view cam?

I've seen the job a few "installers" have done to cars. I wouldn't let them touch my car. Seriously. I had a dealer try to sell me a LoJack unit. But the only way they would sell it is if they installed it. They said they were required by contract to install it. That ended those negotiations. No way I would let someone play with the electrical system on my brand new car...especially after I had already seen the quality of work they perform.

My screen does come on in rear view split screen mode. When I back up the whole screen shows what is behind me.
