Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this is how it should work? BUt if it is i think it should be different! When i set a destination at night especially i sometimes like to drive with the screen off! It seems that when the screen is off it will not give me directions. I realize that when you are listening to the radio and you set a destination you can have it to radio screen and when a new direction comes up it switches to the map and shows you where to turn which is great but it would be nice if it could tell you where to go as it does by voice without using the screen! Is this how all these units work? Or is there something wrong with mine?

Thanks for any feedback!

How are you turning off the screen? If you are holding the "V" button, it also puts the Navigation system into stand by. See page 12 of the Hardware Manual.

Hey Aviator thanks for responding! Yes i am holding the v button! I read what you told me to in the hardware manual and understand why the nav does not work in this case. But does anyone know if it is possible to shut the screen off another way but still hear and get the directions to your destination without actually seeing it on the screen. That screen can be quite bright and get on your nerves after watching it for 6 hours at night when on a trip!

Don't you have it hooked to you ILLUMINATION line so that at night it will dim? You can even set the birghtness really low. Seems pretty non-annoying to me at night.

Hey ducatiboy, Thanks for that info. I just dimmed that and its much better! Yes it dims with the lights but it was still very bright. Now that i dimmed it way down when the lights are on its pretty good. I still would have liked it to work with the screen right off! But this is ok!

By the way thanks so much for the headlight unit it works great. I did the whole install myself and it worked perfectly!

Thanks a million.
