I put the Z1 in today everything looks great but I hooked up the parking brake to the ground and know I'am getting a warning screen.

Also I have an 05 Chevy truck with day time and auto lights how can I get the night time screen to work.

Help with flashing of the lights as well like I said they are always on. Please help. thank you.

You can just put a simple switch on that wire if you desire or if you use the Flasher and I think you can just leave it as is.
If you don’t have the ILL wire (orange) connected then the night time screen wont work. You can either search the internet for the ILL for you car or you can find it yourself with a Voltmeter, just look for the wire that goes from 0v to 12v when you turn you headlights on.

Even though you have daytime running lights your ILL inside your car should only turn on when your auto lights turn on or you manually switch them on. Even if you have auto light there must be an off switch so just switch from auto to off.

No matter what you don't want the parking brake grounded all the time. You can put it on a switch if you like or the parking brake itself. But if you ground it all the time you get that message that you have to hit "ok" to every time you start the car. If you fix the parking brake, that message will stay there till you reset your unit. It's a real pain. You can put it on a switch, then when you get the manual flashing of your lights working (or get one of my circuits) you can just leave it off for ever.

Someone emailed me with a question about this post, so I will eleborate on this:

"Lavish62" said: "I hooked up the parking brake to the ground and know I'am getting a warning screen."

I would assume he/she meant this:
"I hooked up the parking brake to the ground and now I am getting a warning screen."

This made me think the parking brake was grounded all the time. If so you will get a "warning screen" saying you hooked up your parking brake incorrectly. This you need to reset your unit to get rid of. There is always a "disclaimer" screen, but sometimes if you ground your parking brake you get both a disclaimer and a parking brake warning.

As for the "disclaimer" screen. Yes, that shows up every time you start the car and go to the nav system. If you just boot to the AV system you get no disclaimer screen till you access the nav system. If you hook your parking brake to ground and drive around even just once, you will get a warning screen too. Then you have 2 things to hit "ok" through not just one.

You will always have a "disclaimer" screen, but if you get the disclaimer screen and a "warning parking brake message" also that "warning message" can be gotten rid of by not grounding your parking brake when you drive and resetting the unit.

Thank you for all your help I am going to un ground the parking brake and see what happens.

If I hook up the parking brake wire what exactly do I hook it to? Or shoulld I not hook it up at all?

Or if I go with the switch option does that need a power and grownd, and what would I hook that to? The parking brake power?

Well that won't make your "warning" message go away, you need to reset the unit for that.

It depends on what you want to do. If you plan on flashing your lights every time you turn the car on or you buy one of my circuits, then don't connect it to anything. If you want to use the Z1 like it was intended, then connect it to the parking brake wire like in the instruction manual (kind of complicated to get into here, but there is a good write up in the manual).

If you do the switch idea... Get a toggle switch, run the wire from the Z1 labeled parking brake to that switch, then on the other connection on that switch run that wire to ground. When the switch is "activated" and those are connected, that parking brake wire will go to ground. When you flip the swith back, it will not be connected to anything.

You can do that if you want to. Then if you plan on flashing your lights, just turn off the switch (wire floating). If you forget to manually flash your lights, stop and flip the switch. If you start moving and forget to flip the switch back the warning message will come back and you will need to reset your Z1 again.

I got it thank you. it all makes sense know. As for the flasher I am waiting for it to arive at my door step hopefully soon I think you sent it out on Friday.

Although I'm quite concerned about wiring it because no one seems to know anything about the 2005 Chevy illumination wire. I've tried to hook the unit up to what I thought was the wire but its not working at all.
