Hey,

I just had a couple quick thoughts on how we might be able to control all the spam posts to this site. They seem to be getting worse.

1. During registration, have one of those boxes that makes you type in what you see (this would remove automated spamming).

2. Perhaps have some probation time for new members, ie: your not allowed to post for a day or two. I don't think many of these programs/people are going to waite around 2 days to SPAM.Also, this will weed out those one time posters just looking for a quick answer, especially the ones who refuse to search.

3. Some kind of content filter for posts, or subject line. For example, certain words or phrases are denied posting ie: porn.

I donno, just some thoughts.

those have been looked at, the image verification is being used i believe already.

Posted Jul 03, 2007 · 21:22 UTC#3

Yeah image verification is in effect. However there is software that can recognize the letters in the picture. At anyrate, there's enough mods here now, those posts don't last too long.

Ive always been in support for a "waiting" period, or a "must" post in a special section first before account is fully activated.

Yeah, the spam is getting crazy.

I added a confirmation question today, in addition to the visual confirmation.

It asks "Who makes the AVIC Navigation Units?"

If "Pioneer" is not entered, the registration will restart.

Have you guys ever discussed making a minimum post amount for people to put stuff up for sale? I look at some of the stuff in there from the guys with 1 or 2 posts and it seems shady...

I 100% agree. I hate fly by night sellers. "Oh but I have great eBay feedback". Yea jerky, like that isn't someone else's eBay ID.

Jason, what do you think about the minimum post amount to sell something? Is that something that you could implement, or would it be more along the lines of a moderator deleting the posts of people under the set amount?

Posted Jul 21, 2007 · 00:54 UTC#19

It would probably be up to the moderators to lock/delete the threads....

Posted Jul 21, 2007 · 01:22 UTC#20

Is Jason still around? He got a new ride and now he doesnt chat with us anymore LOL
