Memory mode and POI's

I have been through the search, called Pioneer and I still cant get this to work the way I want....Pioneer says it will work. If I plot a route say from VA to GA, along I95....all I want it to display is a gas station and maybe a fast-food joint, I cannot get it to do this. I did the POI overlay, chose gas stations and fast-food, plotted my route and removed the NAV disc and it will not display these POI's. I don't need detailed imagery 5 miles from my route just a simple icon along the way. Believe me if this thing can store 600 miles of roads or more I surely hope it can put up a few icons while in memory mode. Please help me get this to work if possible, if not then this thing is poorly designed...how much memory can an icon take. Sorry for the rant but hopefully i'm wrong.

You cant display POI overlay without the disk in the drive.

That's a very poor design IMO, two different peeps at Pioneer told me the same thing that you could display selected POI's along the saved route because the route is narrow when saved and doesn't require huge amounts of memory. You just couldn't access additional POI's without inserting the disc, you had to use what was pre-selected. Think about it, you save a route then want to play a movie for the back-seaters..but need to stop the movie for a stupid icon that could'nt be stored if you need fuel.....that's ridiculous. I don't need lakes, streams, neighborhoods streets 3 miles on either side of the saved route, but a fuel stop or a food stop would be a wise choice dont you think? How much memory does gas station icons require??? Man I really hope this isn't true. Sorry, i'm bitter now.

Well unfortunately it is. It may be a possibility that the reps misunderstood what you were asking and thought you were asking if you could do a POI search with the disk removed. Nevertheless it wouldn't be the first time a Pioneer rep said something like that and were completely wrong about how the device really works. Its easy to test them. Call them back and ask them if they have a working unit in front of them. If they say yes then have them try to do what your describing and see if it works for them. Tell them to plot a route with POI overlays displayed and then have them eject the disk and then ask them what happens.

A solution to your problem instead of displaying the overlay is to add in a WAYPOINT of the POI you would want to overlay. That way you can watch your movie and the nav system will alert you when you approach your waypoint.
