Possible D3 DOA

Hello all. I installed my brand new D3 that I bought on eBay for $682 in my 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser, but it will not power on. I used a 70-8112 Metra amp integration harness.

The first time I put the key in and turned it over to ACC, I hear a pop from my speakers. Not usually a good sign, but not always a bad sign. I pressed the little reset button on the D3 and heard a small click through my speakers, which I believe is the D3 going through it's reset process. Nothing happened. No lights, no sounds -- nothing. I pulled the key out and tried again with the exact same results. I tried starting my car and tried resetting while the engine was running, but still nothing.

I went over my wiring about a thousand times to make sure all the wires were matched and spliced correctly, but to no avail.

I then separated the D3's wires from the Metra harness so I could test them with my multimeter. The yellow lead from the Metra harness (which I left plugged into the factory male plug) shows +12VDC constant and red shows +12VDC with the key in and turned to ACC or ON. I did not ground the black wire from the D3 straight to a chassis screw (as it is supposed to be). Instead, I spliced it to the black ground wire provided on the Metra harness.

Was it possibly DOA? Any ideas?

Yea try screwing the ground into a metal piece. Does the d3 turn on, meaning light up and stuff. And your problem is you just can't hear anything from the speakers?

I feel like a total idiot now. I fussed around with all my wiring and decided to just try a straight ground from the D3 to the chassis rather than going through the Metra harness. Bingo. It lit up right away and everything appears to be working. Woohoo! Sorry for a worthless thread -_-
