If you get a z1 and update the software -- is that the same as a z2?

And if you get the z1 + update the software, can you use the 2-wire bypass still?

umm i dont think we can really answer that cause no one has the Update for the z-1 yet so..... we arnt sure however mine was shipped on friday so ill keep ya updated about the update and see if it turns it to a Z-2 and if the 2 wire bypass still works.

No, the disk is not out yet, but if you unlock both drives and put them in a pc and image the Z2 drive on to the Z1 drive you will have a Z2 with out any bypass. Maybe the update will change the Z2 as well, but till it's out, no one will know.

I asked the lady about the bypass she said that from what she knew it could not be bypassed but said that there are always people out thre trying... LOL Really... LOL

I hear ya on that... thanks.. and sorry for not trusting... now I know you aint no BS... well I also called pioneer support and asked them hey can I bypass the unit to make it work with the update. He said NO.... it was in programming and that you would have to be able to change the program all together..... I told him you all are going to lose sales and he said well we at least know we will not get anyone killed because of it... He was pretty cool about it.. he knew the Z1's had been bypassed, but said that the update will fix that. Oh well we will see...

He probably was lying becasue if he told you it can bypass he would lose his job, remember they record some of their phone calls so he probably had to say that. Anyways we can only hope for the best and we will soon find out.

I sure hope so... cause he said that all the updates on the Z2 will be on the Z1 after upgrades... I want the new maps I travel and it would be nice for that to be more current but I hope I can access them on the fly while driving...

there was so much talk about the upgrade the moment Z2 was announced. And now the upgrade DVDs are available, and there is this very uncomfortable silence probably before a storm of discussions based on findings.

Did it work?

Old bypass still working?

Map showing better accuracy?

IPOD video working? any faster access?

Better bluetooth quality?

And an important one: Z1 owners deserve a free update if all the above 'problems' have been fixed .

Can't wait to hear from the those brave ones who are trying the upgrade as I write this! Good luck guys!

Calm down. I finally got my hands on that disk. I will test it on my Z1 but I can't test it on a Z2, cause I don't have one. I was told this all works rather nicely, but I haven't tried it yet. I want to back up my hard drive before I do, give it a little while, I will post what I find when I do it. Hopefully some other people who also have this disk will when they get a chance as well.

It is the same as the z2 but the bypass with the flashers will not work anymore. I know I just did it 2 days ago. but I'm waiting a few days to see if the new bypass works were you ground normally to the parking brake and ground the connector#2 pin

and yes all those problems are fix. Ny navi is acurate and bluetooth is alot better I don't have the IPOd, but everything is wonderful. Hope that helped answer your question
