D3 Data Dvd playback

I was wondering about the DIVX codec--will the D3 read a dvd only if it is formatted like a movie dvd(divx and dvd movie), or will it also work with several data media files on it?

Also, if the latter were true, could the D3 play several divx-encoded music videos back-to-back like a playlist? Or would one have to manually select each file to play every time?

No unfortunately it will not work. Maybe the next edition will support divx/avi, and most importantly a built in SD card slot.......

Actually, yes it will. I have seasons of Divx Family Guy and Farscape eps burned onto DVD's and they play fine on the D3. I don't have enough music videos to burn onto a whole dvd, but I have them on a cd and they play fine too. When there is a divx disc in the slot, it will automatically start playing the first file. Touch the screen to see all the controls to skip and select folders.

Oh, also the video file must be identified by the D3 as Divx. You can play Xvid files as well, but you need to change the label of the codec of the file to Divx. There is a post on this, do a search.

I was also wondering: does the D3 stretch the video image to fit the monitor if the resolution differs for each divx file on a data dvd?

I'd imagine that it does stretch it.

I just thought I'd suggest that if you want to watch video or movies in the vehicle, getting the very affordable iPod cable is really the way to go. You can leave your navigation dvd in the single slot, and still run your movies/video at the same time.

Just a thought.

I would put my music videos on the video ipod but it takes extremely long to convert all those divx files to mp4...I must have hundreds

so i thought i would just burn them straight to data dvd

but thanks for the suggestion

Yeah, I guess that is true. I like to keep my nav dvds in at all times, so I put everything on the ipod. I have about that many too, but that's my source for all video, at least mobile video.

That's my one and only complaint about the D3, that it has only one slot.
