Ok, I tried this on my Z1 and it asks you for a password for updating the z1 to the z2. I'm going to have to update the files from the z2 image I have and then try the update.... unless someone out there has a secret code that would work and wants to PM it to me.

The guy who gave it to me said that when you stick it into a Z2 that is not bypassable it will make it bypassable with no code. But I don't have a Z2 to try that with.

More to come...

PS, stop PMing me and begging for a copy of this disk, 25 requests in one day is way too much. If you want it for a Z2 bypass then it will get around soon enough. If you want it to update a Z1, don't bother, it won't help the way it is, without a code.

Ducati, can I get a copy for my N3? Maybe if I put this disc in, it will create a harddrive for me in the N3!

if any 1 needs this in Canada PM me

btw DB if you load a Z2 image on a Z1 and then run the update will that bypass the unit ???

I don't know, I think so, but I forget and left my Z2 image at work today, so I will try that tomorrow.

Posted Jul 20, 2007 · 03:42 UTC#5

i think it may work

i think it may work

I agree, I think there is a real good chance it will too. Unfortunately without a code there is no easy way to update your Z1 hard drive into a Z2.

i hope this will also work on Z1 to bypass with this update

Does this disc contain the 2007 updated maps?

Does this disc contain the 2007 updated maps?

I think it contains the updated maps so that a Z1 will be like a stock Z2. If the Z2 has "2007 updated maps" then yes. But from what I'm told there is no real update to a Z2 other than the bypass.

Here are some links about the update cd (from the activation site). From reading them you can figure out that the password is generated to only work with your unit (one serial number). You can't generate another from the media number because the site will already have registered it. So it looks like if the Z2 to Z2 update does work, without password and does add the bypass back in. Then the only way for Z1'ers is to update their disk image to a Z2 and then update with the disc. I look forward to DB verifying that this will work.

Ok, bad news. I have a Z2 image on a DVD. Unfortunately when I put the image on my hard drive, it came up with

Starting pioneer navigation

Update failed

Restarting

And it does this over and over.

So something wrong with my Z2 image or the copying of the Z2 image to a Z1 drive. Sorry, I couldn't test the update disk yet, not till I get an image I can put on my Z1. I'll try again, but not tonight. Sorry.

I'm probably end up buying the disc anyway. (freaking 250, I wonder why they dont lower it to 120).

Posted Jul 21, 2007 · 04:49 UTC#15

Ok I had to hit retry about 150 times.. but it did keep upgrading. I was told by Pioneer that it had something to do with the locked/protected folders and thats why it ask. When you get to 48% it will take about 2 hours of hitting retry that is the maps for all the states being updated. Anyway about hours in all and I have a Z1 converted to a Z2 with all new maps. My street is now on the map... way cool... I still have to add the ground wire and test the bypass and see what happens... I will let you all know sometime tomorrow.

I bought a Z2 from a car audio dealer in Auburn last April. Sales guy promised me he could bypass the unit if he installed it. I let them install and guess what, they never could bypass. I went over there a few days ago after reading a bypass was out. Brian goes oh dude, I can fix you up now, can you leave your car for a few hours.. I said for real, can you do it, he said i promis... Well folks, my Z2 is bypassed. I dont know what he did, and he wont tell me. I have since drove from sacramento to ridgecrest and back and never had a glitch or warning. everything works, nav, dvd, setup, everything. Brian with Car Tunes said they are only doing customer cars only, on a one on one. I think he has to know you a little bit, or you got to be major pissed at him. I suspect he did the dvd upgrade, because i have a toyota 4 runner and it takes more than an hour or so to remove the radio. I dont notice anything else that might reflect an upgrade, but i do know it works like a charm.. Now I like the Z2 better the Eclipse 5495 in my Titan.

What 4runner takes an hour to take the radio out? The only radio I have ever seen take near that long to remove from the car was a vw jetta only because the locking tabs for the radio keys were broken. The whole lower dash had to be removed.

maybe im wrong there, I have never had the radio out. I paid somone to do it and was told radio install was min 3 hours. I also looked on an online instruction site for the 2007 toyota 4runner sport and it explained removing half the center console and part of the lower dash, I assumed the car stereo shop was correct and trusted their explanation. Did i get screwed? Full install with 4 sperakers, amps and head unit was $600. They did a nice job and built a mini box attached to back side of the rear seat for two amps. They also carperted it, looks nice. I've been told i got a good deal. Besides, they didnt charge for my bypass so i dont feel to bad now.

Posted Jul 21, 2007 · 13:02 UTC#20

Are you happy with the sound? Then no you didn't get screwed. 600 for the work that was done, is a fair price.

Posted Jul 21, 2007 · 14:25 UTC#21

I've got the same stuff in both vehichles, Polk 6" components, JBL 12" in base with their enclousure, Eclipse Pro amps. My Titan has the Eclipse 5495 head unit and it sounds a lot better than the Z2 in the 4 runner. It may be the vehicle dymanics. The Titan has a lot titer space, where as the 4 runner is more open. The stereo shop wants to install a line driver, at least thats what i think he said, to improve the sound on the Z2. He wants $500 installed. I dont know, it seems like a waste of money, I told him i would like to hear one installed on someone elses vehicle but he hasnt invited me for that yet. Maybe some of you know if it is good or not. The 4 runner is my wifes vehicle so not too excited yet to do anything more unless i knew for sure.

i hope ur wife is reding this :P

Posted Jul 21, 2007 · 23:04 UTC#23

The line driver may help a bit, the z's preout voltage is around 2 volts where as the eclipses preout voltage is 4 or more. The other thing you're going to run into though is eclipse is just an overall better sounding peice of equipment. Better tone controls and whatnot.
