Z1 to Z2 and bypass questions

Ok, it's been months since I've visited this site and lots has transpired since then. I've read through many posts but seems my particular situation predates most others, so here's the question.

I have one of the first batch of Z1's built...bought about a year ago. DucatiBoy's bypass circuit installed, NO updates of any kind installed, XM module, Blue Tooth module, iPod module installed. NO echo, no issues what so ever....works perfect.

My question is what advantage, if any, is there in this Z1 to Z2 upgrade? I'm not too keen on pulling this beast out of the dash to have to rewire any bypass circuitry. What functionality would I gain? Is this Z1 to Z2 disc different than the current nav upgrade disc for the Z1? Can I do this myself or MUST I go to an authorized dealer?

If I've missed a FAQ or post that goes over all these points, I appologize in advance.

Thanks

Jay

The CNDV-700HD is the upgrade disc that basically makes a Z1 into a Z2.

After this upgrade the circuit flasher bypass will no longer work and you will have to do the "2 wire bypass".

The main advantage is that you will have all the new maps and upgraded POIs.

That's what I needed to know. I'll do some more reading on these two topics and tackle this at some point.

Where are most people purchsing the upgrade disc?

Does this disc also update the Gracenote library or must this be done via Download and burn to a CD?

Thanks

Most people are buying them from the pioneer parts department or a local shop. It does include the latest gracenote update, although I am not sure how new that is

IIRC, you can DL the Gracenote on your home computer and then burn to CD and then pop in the AVIC and update the database that way, correct?

Apart from the new maps and POIs, there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to pay $250 for the disc. My unit works fine with the bypass circuit. The GPS sucks as everyone already knows, but it's functional and gets you there. I have no echo on my bluetooth and have not done any firmware updates at all.

The old rule seems to apply: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
