Is the Z2 image available for download?

Posted Jul 27, 2007 · 21:50 UTC#2

Why do you need that?

Posted Jul 27, 2007 · 23:29 UTC#3

To update my Z1.

Posted Jul 28, 2007 · 01:34 UTC#4

Cant go from Z1 to Z2 using a downloaded disc. It needs a unique key.

Z2 --> Z2 (bypassed), that's a different story.

That is why I want an image of the HDD.

I thought I read about some floating around here.

Yikes, that was fast.

So, you want to turn a Z1 into a Z2, then bypass the video lockout, essentially turning it back int a Z1? What, for the map updates? They aren't that great....ummmm.......OK.

No he actually had a good idea. I've been trying to do this as well. You copy the files from the Z2 to the Z1, making it a Z2, and if those files are from an older non-bypassable Z2, now there is an update disk to make it a Z2 bypassable for the new maps.

It's a good theory and I have 2 images from 2 different places and when I restore them to my drive it causes issues, and the machine doesn't boot. I need to try to open the images and try copying the files over isntead of doing a full drive restore, that might work.

I have talked to a couple people who have done this, and if both drives are unlocked it worked, but they had a Z1 and Z2 drive at their disposal, not through the drive image part.

I made a backup of my drive with acronis and every time I screw it up I can restore it, so it can't be the imaging theory, but there is something more. I'm going to try file to file copying form one drive to another and see if that gives me better results.

Remember this image ends up being 18 gigs. 8 if you compress the living daylights out of it, that's not something posts or uploads at a whim.

I'm trying to do the same thing. I have a Z1 and I want to unlock the drive and place a Z2 image on it. Doesn't matter if it's a bypassed image or not because, thanks to hyper, we can bypass any Z2 now.

I know there isn't much change from the Z1 to a Z2 but the maps in my area are very outdated. After spending $2K for this system I don't want to spend another $250 just to get updated maps.

All I need now is a good Z2 image...

Posted Jul 28, 2007 · 12:26 UTC#12

As I said, I have "good" Z2 images, which are copies of the drive from a Z2. Loading that "image" on to the hard drive of a Z1 was causing mine to not boot.

I know people who have done this. But it might need to be a file transfer in the already created partitions. A stock image restore from a z2 to a z1 doesn't work for me with the 2 different images I have. Both images restore a z2 into a z2. Not sure what's the issue or how to fix it yet.

Hmmm, that is disappointing. From reading around I thought this was pretty basic. If you can't get it to work, there's no way I can. I remember a number of folks swapping drives but I can't recall who took a Z1 drive and loaded a Z2 image. I know many people were successful with loading a Z1 image onto a Z2 drive.

Hopefully you can find the secret Ducati...

Yah, I'm working on it. Not to point blame on the people who made me an image, but someone else made an image with one program and I took the image and tried to load it on mine and had trouble. I'm thinking it might be an image incompatibility, since my acronis version won't open and browse the images people gave me, so I might have the wrong version which might be creating the problem.

I think if I had both drives in my hands, I was told it was a simple prospect, and worked. Copying the image means both parties have to have the same image software and most likely the same version, this might be my problem. When I come up with something I'll post it. Maybe tomorrow (time permitting). :)

I had no problems creating, restoring, or running images. I used Acronis True Image Home 10.0, I believe. Whole drive at a time.

So judging by all that I have read:

No one has yet successfully taken their Z2 --> used the bypass update --> unlocked their drive --> imaged it --> compressed it --> and uploaded it as a torrent?

I really want to update my Z1 to a Z2 (bypassed) but do not want to give Pioneer any more money. $250 for map updates isn't worth it. But I would pay someone to send a dual-layer dvd of the aforementioned steps...if they worked.

At first, I was considering myself schooled, but it seems I may have been onto something. I was basically likening it to using a wall outlet to run a 12v DC power supply to run an inverter, bringing it back to 120v AC. Not very efficient, seems like a lot of work, and something is bound to disagree and bring the whole project to a halt.

We've done all but the last step. We're not trying to circumvent Pioneer's revenue by upgrading everybody's Z1, the only goal was to provide a bypass for the Z2. As for a future keygen for the disc, that's possible, but not high on the list of priorities, since the ability to do what you want is there, it just costs money.

I disagree. Your only goal was to provide a bypass for the Z2, but our goal is to upgrade the Z1 without providing another $250 to Pioneer for a system we have all already spent a lot of money on.

If you don't want to provide your image, I completely understand that, but this is something we are trying to pursue and I understand the legal aspect of it. If Ducati decides this is something we should not continue on the forums, that's his call and I will honor that as well.

I don't think JasonH (who is the real authority here) or I would squash this discussion... Legal or not. Enough sites won't even let people talk about bypasses. Historically here you can talk about anything avic related. As long as there isn't too much bickering.

No one has yet successfully taken their Z2 --> used the bypass update --> unlocked their drive --> imaged it --> compressed it --> and uploaded it as a torrent.

After this was said, Hyperite said

Because people here have done all the "hard parts" of what jbhorne was looking for. Uploading it as a torrent was the "easy" and the most "legally questionable" part I guess. And I think that hyperlite is saying that just cause it wasn't uploaded as a torrent doesn't mean most of this has not happened, just not the very last step.

I don't think that he is chastising anyone who might do so, but it's low on his priority list. It's also a lot of bandwidth and headaches for seeding such a torrent or whatever. It also opens you up to problems legally if you get tagged to something.

I would like to limit the ISO begging the main forum regulars. If you want to bug each other, go nuts..... Those are huge files and not the easiest thing to distribute. I don't want this to get into a "me too", "me too", "me too" series of posts begging for Z2 images. Everyone thinks they are the only one PMing, but you are not, trust me. :)

If people out there want to get together and share these things, go right ahead. If people want to, I would probably recommend creating a thread "ISO begging and supplying" and either post a message like "hey PM me if you are looking for one" or "hey I want one, PM me if you want to share" and then take car e of it via PM or something, eventually someone will have the time and knowhow to torrent it or something.

Thank you Ducati, and Hyper, please don't get me wrong; I respect your contributions especially with the Z2 bypass. I just didn't want to see this thread get squashed.

Exactly right. It's legally questionable enough to me that I'm not going to take the risk. And yes, STOP PM'ing ME!!!! We're not distributing images :) The earlier distribution was to people who could help with the bypass, and that's been completed.

And ducati, it's HyperITE
