My buddy is installing my D3 and camera right now. I know with the D1 there was a screen where you could flip it on and see the camera view while driving. I am pretty sure the D3 has this option as well. My question is can you setup the camera to allow this mode where you can see the camera while driving and also have it setup when you throw it into reverse the camera automatically comes up as well? When it was setup on my D1 it only worked when I put it in reverse but I could never use it while driving, a blank screen only came up on that display option. I was just wondering if you were able to set it up to have the best of both worlds (being able to see it while driving and having it automatically switch to camera view when in reverse?

You can do it...I'd wire up a relay with a switch...and bam best of both worlds.

I, on the otherhand, would hook the camera up to the reverse signal in the car. When everything is hooked up, I would go into the map, touch the screen and hit the rear camera button display. I think this is much easier than setting up a switch. ^_^

This works with a bypassed D3. I don't know about one that is not bypassed.

it has nothing to do with being bypassed. thats how it is supposed to work. you hookup the red wire from the camera to acc. you hook up the purple/white from the avic to the reverse in the car and the camera will come up automatically when in reverse. if you go into screen mode in the nav menu and hit rear view you will have the image while driving

Damn misfit..never thought of just leaving the camera powered all the time. Guess I've been over charging people for a while now haha

I drive like this alot, the cam will of course work in reverse as it should. Just wire it as the installation manual says. No special trick wiring or additional switches needed. When you want to switch it to cam view while driving, hit: MAP, MAP again, select REAR VIEW. Its the last option in the map display options. Now you have eyes in the back of your head while hitting 120 down the freeway.
