I have a 05' Silverado with onstar and Bose. I like the use of the telephone that came with the truck. When you use the phone mute wire to bypass the screen what can you do to keep the phone still operational with the button on the mirror? Something has to tell the radio to mute and the voice to come thru the speakers I assume. I know the button on the steering wheel becomes useless.
D3/Onstar question??
Depending on the bose/on-star interface you are using the mute wire may be needed. The peripheral unit will mute the radio(requiring the mute wire) or turn the radio off(mute wire not needed) when ever the on-star phone is used. You can wire it up either way. I always use the mute radio method b/c the AVIC's are slow to boot up. I use a pin out of an older rca plug to perform the by-pass b/c I'm using the mute wire for radio muting.
I think the steering wheel button will work even if you're not using the PESWIPS.
I don't fully understand using a pin out of an old rca to perform the bypass???? So the mute wire is not used which makes it available to hook up regularly??
Exactly.
Yea you have to take the mute wire out of your current harness and move it up a spot inorder to bypass the d3. Then you need to insert another wire into the spot were the mute wire came from to regain the mute function on the d3. Or vice versa, which ever way you want to do it.
But yes your going to need an extra wire to bypass the d3 and have the mute function. And you would have to get that extra wire from another pioneer harness of some type.
Ok well that makes sense. But if I use the mute wire then for the bypass which wire is used for the onstar phone?
