Maybe this has been described before BUT ..

I've got a convertible and I've noticed that if the sun is out, the CD-SR1 steering Wheel remote doesn't work properly unless it's in the shade...

Anyone with any ideas?

You are correct they do fail in direct sunlight, I find if I put my hand between the remote and the unit while in sunlight it will work.

All IR remotes fail in intense light unfortunately. Thats why it's recommended to use the hardwired remote input if your car had steering wheel buttons. I found that placing my remote a bit lower on the steering wheel and angling it inwards a bit helped a lot.
