WHY the locking?

I'm trying to figure out why Pioneer locks so many features when the car is in motion (putting aside safety issues, etc.)

I have a 2006 BMW with their DVD navigaiton system, and nothing, absolutely nothing, is disabled when the car is in motion (and you can get that car in MOTION!)

So there obviously is not a legal requirment that Pioneer do this...

Actually it's all legal. I'm sure they are worried about being sued.

I have noticed that European systems seem to not lock out anything, they have a disclaimer, but that's it. Jap systems seem to do the same thing. But I had a Chrysler 300C with a nav system and it did lock everything out. Maybe it's who they "intend" to own the car. It seems like american car nav systems lock stuff out like the Pioneer does.

Oh well. You can always flash your lights or get something to do it for you : www.sminntech.com :)
