Well, it finally looks like my D3 is starting to exhibit some serious issues. About four months ago while I was driving down the road, the screen went blank for a few seconds, then it reset by itself and would not show anything on the screen. I hit the reset button and all was good so I dismissed it. Well for the third time in less then 24 hours the same thing has happened but now it resets and the map places me in New York City. Last night I reset it again but today it did it again so it looks like Ill be sending it off for repair or replacement. Has anyone else seen this kind of problem with their units?

HEY!!! Now that Im in NY maybe PAISAN, CNTRY, or MISFIT, you guys could come over and take a look at it for me. Apparently, Im right in the middle of the city close to a police station.

I'm on the west coast but I have had it reset me to LA two or three times in the six months or so that I have owned it. Reset usually fixes it for long periods of time on mine

Thats funny, when I bought my imac on ebay last year thats where it shipped from. How ironic.

Happens to me quite often - very disappointing. At first the only thing I knew of to get it to reset was to hit the reset button. I've recently discovered that if you select the "Modify Current Location" button and simply move your current location to somewhere else (doesn't have to be exactly where you are currently at - anywhere other than where it is stuck at) the unit will then correct itself after a short time.

Yea that tip worked for me but constantly having to do that several times a day now is unacceptable. Fortunately Sonicelectroinx is going to swap the unit out for me for a new one so I should be back up and running soon. :D

Add me to the list of a reseting D3. Several times on a long trip it would reset the nav and place me in LA. I was in Iowa. Today again it placed me in LA, and the vehicle icon would not move. I checked the hardware settings and it all looked normal. I had to reset. I'll monitor it some more, but it looks like it'll be going in for repair.

Mine's one of the first builds. February I believe.

Yea mine too. My new replacement should be going out from Sonicelectronix soon.

Mine did it today too. First time in a couple months. What a pain in the ass to reset all my audio settings after I reset it

Yea I hand wrote all my settings down when it became apparent that I was going to be constantly having this problem.

Sorry to hear this. I had the same problem for a while. I'd be driving along minding my own business in upstate CT or NY and all of a sudden I'd be smack in the middle of City Hall Park in NYC driving through City Hall. I got really fed up after 2 weeks of this and told the installers to fix it. Shortly after that, they reset it and it worked for 24 hours before going into the strange Mother's Maiden Name error.

I ended up sending it back to Pioneer and they fixed it. It doesn't do the NYC thing anymore. Sorry to say you might have to send it back.

Yea I already have. Its being replaced by the dealer. It should be on its way back to me next week.

Robm,

Can you send me your serial # or case # for your repair. The tech I spoke to never heard of the problem. Did they list what they replaced or performed with your service.

Thanks.

Yea, havnt we heard that before.

Add another February model with the same problem. I was stuck in LA for 2 weeks while I was in SF. And not the only problem I've been having with my unit. Very frustrating and going back to Pioneer soon.

I wish I could send you the info, the installers sent everything back and they have the paperwork. Given that I'm still having problems with the unit, I'm tempted not to go back to them and what's more, they've probably thrown out the paperwork.

Sorry, I will ask them if they kept anything though.

I work as an installer over here in California at circuit city and this problem happens a lot with customers coming back. I was actually working with a customer today with this exact problem. Most likely whoever installed the unit did not connect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) wire. This wire sends pulses to the unit to calculate how fast you are going, and if its not connected I thinks your not going anyplace. This is the most common fix when this problem arises. I actually called pioneer today asking them what the deal was but they couldn’t give me anything. “You must have a bad batch at your store†---yeah ok. If your experiencing this problem make sure that wire is connected. On most cars its pretty difficult to find and just a pain, hence installers skipping that step.

I have my VSS hooked up and it still happens once every couple months or so. I am way too lazy to reset my sound settings every time so the most simple fix seems to be going into modify current location screen and getting close to wherever you really are. Once you do that, the sats seems to auto-correct you to exactly where you are

Posted Sep 18, 2007 · 17:33 UTC#21

No, thats not the problem. I connected my VSS, as well as most if not all on this thread that are now reporting this problem. This problem is just starting to service as the units are now about six months old. That tells me that there is something that eventually gos wrong with the unit at about this time.

Posted Sep 18, 2007 · 17:40 UTC#22

Also, before I sent my unit off for replacement I discovered what I think is the problem. The sat signal strength would always drop out completely when the unit would reset to NY. Also, if I had the west coast disk in it would reset to LA. When this problem started getting worse I started monitoring the sat signal and it would drop out at about every five minutes or so. I think this indicates that something eventually goes wrong with the way the unit receives or processes the sat signals.

My VSS was also connected properly. Hopefully I'll hear from my Pioneer contact by end of the week.

Itchy: I asked my dealer for the paperwork but he has "lost it" (ie: he threw it out).

My problem was much worse than yours though, I had the dreaded Mother's Maiden name lockout screen.

I am also going to be unplugging the VSS wire to determine if that is causing me problems as well (see drifting thread I posted in this forum).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Well I received my replacement unit on Tuesday. It took about three weeks to complete the process but I am glad I went with these guys. Their warranty cant be beat. My unit became defective after about 6 months and without any questions they told me to send it in and they would swap it out for a brand new unit. This is amazing service. Pioneer would have had me send it in and probably never find a problem and send it back to me unrepaired/replaced. I recommend anyone buying on the net look these guys up.
