How to get callers voice through only 1 speaker?

I know that edrock has phone settings to have the caller only come from the right speaker, and it apparently works very well for him. I've searched my menus and cannot find how to do that. Can someone post for me? Thanks.

Page 156 of the owner's manual.

You can choose LF, RF or both.

Thanks. I've read through most of the manual, but apparently not that page.

Isn't there also a jack on the back of the HU for an external speakers? I don't have the manual in front of me, but I seem to recall it having something to do with a phone and bluetooth.

I believe there is...and that may be the solution to the echo problem. But I hope these is something else that can be done. I know with my mic placement and the sound out of the right speaker, there hasn't been any echo complaints...until yesterday. My wife was in the car and I called her. I could hear a slight echo of my conversation. I'm going to look at another mic or possibly some foam around the mic and see what that does.

I've read all these issues of echo. I'm going to try the follow:

My car has a DDin opening for a factory voice controlled nav option. I opted to not get the factor nav so that I could install the Z1. Well, in the panel that sits below the steering column that angles down right above your shins as you drive, I noticed 4 slits to the right of the column in a circular pattern...just like where a factory mike could have been mounted. I'm going to put my mike there. Now the factory Bose system is a seven speaker system (which blows by the way)...but the odd speaker is a center speaker in the dash. I'd like to try and hook that center speaker to the HU as the phone speaker (assuming the impedance is the same...I'll have to research that one a bit). This will eliminate the stereo speakers from an interference with the mike. It might also provide some natural shielding to the mike as well. The sound will reflect off the windshield for me to hear, but it will be mostly absorbed by the interior before it bounces off any more glass and hits the mike. By the time any stray reflected sound waves reach the mike, I'm hoping they will be too weak to be detected by the microphone, thus eliminating any echo or feedback.

One other thing I noted is that the install manual contradicts itself. On page 7, it lists the port next the mic port as "not used" but on the following page 9, it specificlly shows a guide speaker plugging into that same port. Anyone use a guide speaker?

Jay

Addendum...it appears that the guide speaker only seems to be an "option" when installing the surrond sound processor. Has anyone looked into this issue or "option"? Or has anyone tried installing a guide speaker without the surrond add on?

Also, also, I think the guide speaker is 8ohm.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of car do you have?

Placing your mic down by your knees would not be good IMO. Try and find where the factory put the mic. Many put it in the rear view mirror. I think if you put it where you're talking about, you will get a ton of feedback. Of course, maybe if you output your phone voice to just the right side, that may not be an issue.

I suspect I'll have to experiment a bit with it. I'm not sure where the factory mic is located but that area of the dash looks like it's made for a mic. Other GM vehicles I've seen put it up in the center (like in trucks and what not) by the roof console or right by the drivers head inside the headliner.

I've seen a lot of vehicles that have places in the dash that look like they are made for something like that when they are actually an opening for a sensor or a vent of some sort. Keep in mind the factory will put the mic where it can easily pick up your voice.

I did some more looking and it seems the mic is on the drivers side A pillar. I'd like to take a look at a car with the factory nav as mine doesn't really seem like there's a place for a mic. Wondering if the A pillars are a bit different for the factory nav vs. no nav.
