I've just upgraded my AVIC-D1 with the new CNDV-70MTP & the display for the Ipod interface is just sad to say the least. Is there a way to upgrade this portion of the system to at least display Artist Name / Name of track / time / etc.?

No. Thats a hardware change that they didn't fix until the D3
