installed d3 last night, had question bout illumination wire. wire colors matched dimmer wire colors, so ignored colors and hooked it up to dash illumination wire. does that sound right? should it switch fom day to night with ill?

Is it not working? Your post is a little difficult to understand.

When you turn on your headlights, the D3 should dim and go into night mode.

If the "si" you are talking about is a Civic, the wire you should have hooked it up to is the red wire with a black stripe. If you used a harness, just see which wire corresponds with that one.

ok so color on harness does not match, pioneer is orange and orange on harness is for dimmer. orange/white is ill. on harness so thats what i connected it to.

should map display change from day to night with ill. hooked up?

Yes, the map screen should switch to black when you turn on your headlights

If you used an aftermarket Honda harness for your D3, you should connect the orange wire on the harness to the "Illum" wire on the D3.

the orange wire on aftermarket harness said dimmer, the orange/white said illumination so thats the one i used.

its working, but had two dash lights go out was wondering if this could be the cause.
