The backup camera stopped working all of a sudden. I had the Z1 and backup camera for about 2 months and everything worked perfectly and tonight the screen is blank whenever the camera mode comes on. I tried it both ways, when it is in reverse and in rearview mode while Im driving, and the screen is still black. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help. :?

Double check ALL connections. That's the first thing I would do.

Funny, if you bought the Pioneer one, mine stopped working this week too, about 2 months after I installed it. I've checked all my connections, it just seems to be a crappy camera. Mine comes back alive every now and again.

Well that sucks! Have you warrantied it and the new one works?

I have not done warranty exchange yet, the camera "came back alive" yesterday and hasn't gone out again so I'm gonna triple check my connections to make sure I didn't miss anything. Just seems odd that it's going in and out.

You guys tried e-mailing pioneer or calling them about this? I found them to have very good customer service and fast when responding to e-mails.

I haven't yet...I dread customer service calls....I think Dell has done this to me.

Funny... I paid 35 bux for a cheapy camera off of ebay.. It's been through 2 units in the last year and never had a prob... Seems this is a common complaint of the pioneer cams...

I posted this in another thread...but it may be the reason you're having issues. It's from an Acura site. Go to post # 15. This is what they are doing to cure your exact same problems:

So correct me if I am wrong, but all we need to do is apply this sealent to the camera lens?

I don't think it has been confirmed that moisture is what causes the Pioneer camera to fail, but if that's the case, sealing it off seems to fix the issue with Wendy's camera all the TL guys are using.

Not the lens...but to all the seams AROUND the lens and the rest of the camera. It sounds like they've had some issues with moisture getting in the cameras. For $5 at Lowe's and a little time, you could find out if that takes care of your problem. I would seal it up good...everywhere there is any possible way for moisture to get in there.

That's probably worth doing to any camera before it gets installed.

I will try it but in my case I do not think it is moisture. I am in northern TX where it is 100 degrees plus daily.

That opens up another question Navyguy. I wonder if it's the heat that causes the intermittant cut outs?? I know it's hot as hell here too...but I don't know of anyone with a back up camera that lives here to test that theory out.

Has anyone tried this? If so did it work?
Posted Jul 26, 2006 · 05:44 UTC#21
maybe im stating the obvious but if you guys are gona do this and seal the camera, make sure you apply the seal when it works, other wise if it is indeed a moisture problem and you seal it when it doesnt work you will seal the moisture in it, and it wont work.
Hope this helps someone! :D
