Fit Expedition?

I am wondering how cleanly the AVIC-Z1 will go into an Expedition...

1) Is it physically a swap out perfect fit with the current head unit? Does it fit with the stock trim kit without any further modification, extras or cutting?
2) Is there a harness that will allow the steering wheel controls to be used?
3) I assume the toughest part would be the Bluetooth unit, Backup camera, and XM unit and antenna... are there instructions anywhere or am I better off paying an installer to do it?

Any advice or input would be appreciated.

You didn't say what year expedition you have. It doesn't fit perfectly, there is a little space, but....

If you have an 03-06, then this mounting kit will work:

I used the same on my 03 Avaitor and it worked great. Looked great.

Also go to [url=http://www.installer.com">www.installer.com and you can search. Or if you want instructions, call or go to

For the steeing wheel buttons you need one of these:

Works pretty good too. Both links are for the same thing, just different places.

Well, that depends on your skill level. Can you install a regular CD player head unit? Could you run a wire for the sat antenna out to the roof (this is what I thought was the hardest)? If so, then this unit has more wires to hook up so it's more complicated and will take more time, but it's not "harder". Just more involved.

And remember, with few exceptions, very few installers will care more for your truck than you.

I did my own and I think it looks fine.

Of course, don't forget my flasher circuit also, a "must have" for the Z1 www.sminntech.com

Thanks for the details... very nice installation!

It will actually be an 07 Expedition... so I am guesisng I will need to wait a while for a compatible bracket...

That depends on the differences between an 06 and an 07. Did they make changes?

I installed in my 06 Expedition, and added a Clarion 15" rear screen, CDIB100ii; SIR-PNR1, ND-BC1, ND-BT1, SWI-PS(steering wheel control)

Everything fit well, and it looks great. I will post some pics when I get home later.
