what is the difference between the 3 of them? Would I gain anything by putting an N3 brain on my N1 head unit?

Yes, with N3 brain you get a much better iPod interface.

My XM Display did not change...I have heard of being able to see XM pictures of whatever station you are listening too but I do not see them...
