No Sound with CD/DVD/Library???

OK... my friend and I have been working on this install for quite some time now since all the cutting and fitting work has been a hassle.

Anyway... we finally got everything wired up, but for some reason, there's no sound in CD/DVD/Library mode.

The music turns on in radio mode in both FM and AM... and you can hear buttons beeping in those modes and the navigation mode, but there's no music/sound or button beeping in CD/DVD/Library mode.

You can see video running in DVD mode or the timer run on CD/Library mode though.

We've called Pioneer about this and they believe it's a defective unit.

Just wanted more opinions on this problem before I actually ship it back.

Anybody experience this before? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

BTW... this is an AVIC-Z1 unit being installed on a '05 BMW M3... if that information actually helps at all.

Most likely you have the car's internal amp connected to the wire that extends the antenna not the remote amp turn on. Why it works on Am/Fm radio and nothing else, it through it was retracting the antenna when you are on something else and it was turning off the car's internal amp which killed the audio.

Try this

Put on anything musical (am, fm, dvd, sat radio, etc) and hit AV Settings, and then system settings.

Is the

AUTO ANT

Set to RADIO? Yes? I'll bet it is.

Then press it till it says POWER. Exit out.

Then check the things that didn't have audio. I'll bet that's it, not a defective Avic.

If that was it, you can leave it, or you can pull it out and take the blue wire from the main power connector and remove it from whatever you have it hooked to and then take the blue/white wire from connector 1 and connect that wire to whatever the plain blue wire used to be connected to and tape that wire up.

Don't worry, very common thing.

I think that it is too funny that even the Pioneer tech support can't tackle the simplest of the problems.

i was thinking the exact same thing.

if this was a common occurrence, you'd think they'd know how to handle something like this.

the guy just pretty much told us that the unit seems defective without even trying to help troubleshoot the problem.
