Map picture detail constantly changes

My Avic Z1 was a display model ( payed a great price ) it was at a very high end electronics store. When i got the unit they did not have the nav discs for it (Hints the good price). Anyhow, when i am driving in the city of Houston, TX I notice that my map constantly change when im going to work and when im coming home. It starts off pretty boring at my house (plain tan color with streets). As im driving all the sudden it looks like you are about to drive in to blank space, and then it changes to green grass and buildings and all this great detail. It stays like that the rest of the way to work. When i go home it changes back to the boring image in the exact same spot. The store i got the unit from says they may not have loaded all the stuff. Is this my problem or is it something else?

This is a great forum, and I thank you for your help in advance.

Your deck is operating normally. First off, there are no disks. The nice mapping you see is called Detailed Metro Mapping...thats why you see such a difference, but the catch is that the mapping company Pioneer uses has only collected the data to do that in certain areas (in your case X miles by X miles in Houston, TX.) They seem to add more cities each year but its only on certain models and certain areas

Thank you for your quick response. That makes perfect sense, due to the fact the detailed area is near downtown. Thanks for your help.

I bought a floor model Z1 also. I was considering the D3, but they offered this one for less. I felt like they had given me the first round question on who wants to be a millionaire.

ummm.. Sure. I'll take... ummm.. the Z1?
