How is it that there is no radio info?

Maybe I just expected too much from my N3, and granted it is great...but how is it that it doesn't display info when using standard FM radio? I mean granted I should have my ipod hooked up shortly, and I guess it's kind of a moot point...but I'd think something that retails for what this retails would do that.

I mean even my parents Prius's standard radio gave the info for the station that you're on, and the name of the song that's playing.

Is this not a feature, or am I just missing something?

Pioneers had that feature for about ten years and none of the radio stations supported RDS so they took it out to save money. Now the stations support it, go figure

Seriously?

I just couldn't believe it. I'm relegated to the radio since the factory ipod connector in my car doesn't work now, and I forgot to buy the pioneer one before I had the Avic installed. I thought at least It'll still look a little cool with the song info up on the screen...but nothing.

I didn't even know that was a technology for 10 years. I had never seen it until about 2 maybe 3 years ago.

Slightly off topic...

But since the Scion comes with a "pioneer" system standard, that has an ipod connection, is it at all possible to route the connector that came with the car (located in the glove box) to the new head unit? Or are they two totally different types of units?

Pretty sure the OEM Pioneer and aftermarket are totally different. I know the XM tuners aren't compatible

Oddly enough, identical models sold in Europe do have RDS.

It is left off US models for some reason. Sony does (or did) the same thing.

Yeah, RDS has been around a long, long time. Over 10-years, at least 15. Many aftermarket stereos had it back then. I haven't started seeing it on OEM (or at least domestic big 3 cars) until about 7-8 years ago.
